Storming of the Tuileries Palace

The 10th of August in France is not unlike the 4th of July in America in its significant role in the Fremch Revolution. This is the anniversary of the day the Tuileries Palace was burned. We want to see what images we can find of the palace from before it fell in 1792 and after its brief reconstruction period in the 19th century. It was built in 1564 and was the Parisian residence of the royals.

This is the palace behind the Tuileries Garden as it was originally.

Here is a picture from the Getty Museum showing how it was reconstructed to look. It is pretty identical.

The rest of the images are from a French article in Open Edition detailing the Empress Eugenie's room in Tuileries. She was Napolean's wife. Many of her pieces are in existence today. If you like the Empire style you will love her taste...

The above table is mosaic from Florence, made in 1774. It is made of ebony with bronze details.

This small sofa is called the "King of Sweden." It is extremely neoclassical in design.

The secretary is Jean-Henri Reissner and made of many luxurious types of inlaid wood. We will link to other pieces for further details in the article.
